Yves Sikubwabo opened his high school cross-country running season on Wednesday with a bang.
And it signalled the Glebe Collegiate Institute student-athlete could be on the path to winning his second consecutive senior boys’ title at the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations’ championships.

Sikubwabo, who stayed in Canada after representing Rwanda at the 2010 world junior track and field championships and enrolled in Glebe last September, placed first in the senior boys’ 7,000 metres at the Trinity College School Harrier cross-country running meet  in a record 19 minutes, 57.6 seconds. The old record of 20:56 was set by Matt Hughes in 2007.
