Track and Field's Matt Hughes Ready for 2011 World Championships in Athletics

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Former University of Louisville track and field standout and two-time national champion Matt Hughes qualified for the Canadian World Championships Team and is set to compete in the 3,000m steeplechase in Daegu, Korea, at the 2011 World Championships in Athletics from Aug. 27-Sept. 4.
An Oshawa, Ontario, native, Hughes first secured the IAAF `B' Standard at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, racing to a title-winning time of 8:24.87 in the steeplechase, just shades away from the IAAF `A' Standard (8:23.10). Needing another `B' Standard to qualify for a spot on the Canadian World Team, Hughes raced to a mark of 8:30.20 in Monaco at the Herculis Diamond League meet on July 22.
