‘Technical problems’ mar high school track meet

Meet official Rich Gelder of Dundas Parkside High School had the unpleasant task of breaking the news to the field of runners who seconds earlier raced across the finish line.
“Technical problems persist,” he told the panting junior boys’ 100-metre final competitors. “We’ll have to rerun this at the end of the hurdles.”
That’s the kind of day it was for meet organizers. The 2012 Hamilton-Wentworth Interscholastic Athletic Council track and field championships at Mohawk Sports Complex was marred by numerous restarts to the sprint events. The reason? Unexplained difficulties with the computer at trackside used for timing and providing camera shots of the order of finish.
