ATHLETICS CANADA MOURNS LOSS OF AMATEUR SPORT ICONMonday, April 16, 2012 OTTAWA - The entire Canadian sport community is in mourning today as Canada’s premier amateur sport journalist has died. There’s no doubt Randy was a true friend to Canadian amateur sport, this was especially true for us at Athletics Canada. Randy covered our athletes and events on a year-round basis, not just every four years. He was a true professional in every sense of the word. Perdita Felicien is shocked and saddened by Randy's sudden passing. "Randy was the kind of reporter that didn't simply care about filing the story, he wanted to get to know the person behind it. He was a rare gem and beacon for high performance athletes. It saddens me to know we have lost a tremendous talent, friend and supporter." Priscilla Lopes-Schliep talks about her relationship with Canadian amateur sports number one fan. “I was speechless when I heard the news; I truly am going to miss him. I consider Randy a great friend, he was such a sweet person, he was so happy for me when he found out I was pregnant. He even gave me a baby book for Nataliya before she was born. Randy was a great writer, friend, husband and father, he will be missed by many. My heartfelt deepest sympathies to the Starkman family.” Athletics Canada offers its deepest sympathies to Randy’s family and friends, notably to his wife Mary and daughter Ella. -AC- More news
