Doing it properly, though, takes years of practice. Madison Johnston has been launching the javelin for a few years now and has certainly gotten the hang of things. In fact, Johnston has become so good at it that she's earned a full scholarship to Stephen F. Austin (SFA) State University in eastern Texas. "I had a bunch of visits there, and right when I got home from SFA, I decided that's where I want to go," said Johnston, who has also been named Eastview Secondary School's senior female athlete of the year. She's the two-time defending champion in the javelin at the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSSA), having won her second consecutive gold medal after throwing almost four metres farther than her next closest competitor.
